Penja white pepper from the province of Moungo in Cameroon is harvested when ripe and then dried in the sun. All the production stages (from harvesting to sorting) are done entirely by hand. The volcanic soils of Penja give the white pepper its fresh aromas of menthol and camphor and its long lasting flavour is released when cracked. In 2014 Penja white pepper was the first product of the African continent to obtain Protected Geographic Indication (PGI) status.
